Hiking

Hike the world-famous Na Pali Coast Kalalau trail to any of several beautiful destinations.  Pali means 'cliffs", and these cliffs are just spectacular. The trail starts at Ke'e Beach, with the first stop at the 1/2 mile marker ... a beautiful place, with a vantage point that lets you see the cliffs and shoreline below. So far, it is an easy hike. From here on it is best to have hiking boots, and if it has rained recently, be prepared to walk through some water and deal with some slippery mud. Next stop is Hanakapai'i Beach, two miles along the coast. This is a good stopping spot, to rest and head back to Ke'e. If you have the time and energy, another two miles up the Hanakapai'i River takes you to the Hanakapai'i Falls. Serious hikers may want to go on to the famous Kalalau Valley. It is a tough, but beautiful, hike we are told.

From Princeville Bed and Breakfast you can hike Princeville B&B's mini "Sea lodge trail", crossing over a little stream, and down to a special secluded beach below.  And take the weekday guided 2-hour tour up nearby Crater Hill near Kilaulea Lighthouse.

Historic Kilauea Lighthouse and National Wildlife Preserve

Visit historic Kilauea Lighthouse and National Wildlife Preserve. This lighthouse has a spectacular view of the North Shore cliffs and the beautiful Pacific Ocean ... from the vantage point of the northern-most point in the Hawaiian Islands.  The wildlife preserve is primarily a bird sanctuary, where you will see many birds found only in Hawaii ... many of which winter at this location.  This beautiful and interesting site is just a short drive from Princeville Bed and Breakfast.
Each week day, at 10am, you can take a 2-hour guided tour up Crater Hill at Lighthouse Point. Kilauea means volcano in Hawaiian, and you will peer down into the crater ... or what's left of it. You will also learn about the birds, the foliage and the history of this unique spot.  This tour is for a limited number of people, so sign up for it ahead of time ... to make sure you can go.  This part of the preserve is otherwise off limits to tourists.  And the view is spectacular.
